1. Will adopting CPA price senior homeowners out of town?
Good news - Low and moderate income, senior homeowners will be exempt.
2. Will local businesses pay the surcharge?
Commercial & Industrial properties are exempt so as not to deter economic growth.
3. How much State money will this bring to Reading?
Past data shows about $180,000 dollars would be added by State Match annually.
4. Can we afford to adopt CPA now at 1%?
This is for the voters to decide.

6. Who manages CPA funds?
A Community Preservation Committee will be formed with members from all pillars of community. CPA dollars are not comingled with the Town's operating budget. Town Meeting has final approval for all expenditures.
7. How are the funds allocated?
A minimum of 10% is allocated to the three pillars of CPA - Affordable Housing, Open Space & Recreation and Historical Preservation, annually. The balance is then re-allocated as the CPC determines.
8. Do the allocated funds have to be spent every year?
No they don't, the funds are allowed to accrue as the CPC determines.
The funds can also be leveraged to gain State or Federal funds, which is a game changer in order to increase affordable housing in particular.
